This sweet little neighborhood bakery started in a brick house with a yellow door. A lemonade stand with homemade baked goods, aimed at fundraising for their kid’s dance fees, quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Community building front yard pop-ups became anticipated events, special orders came knocking on the yellow door, and a cottage bakery was born. When the pandemic hit, Brick House Yellow Door finished a kitchen renovation and officially began taking online orders for porch pick up or delivery. Customers expressed their gratitude for a tiny bit of joy during global dark and uncertain times, delivered in a brown box with yellow twine. Years of pop-up markets, community events, and coffee shop partnerships gave the bakery a chance to grow slowly, building their community in Long Beach and beyond. Now, the chance to move into a new location in Long Beach and offer this beautiful community a space to relax and enjoy delicious baked goods (and more!) everyday of the week is truly a dream come true!
After over a decade in the fashion industry, BHYD’s founder, Yolanda Tran, was ready for a change. A lifelong avid baker, Yolanda considered expressing her creativity in her other passion, baked goods. Years of baking gifts for friends, family, teachers and her community gave her the courage to jump into a new industry. Encouragement from the folks she had shared her baked goods with fueled her excitement for a new little business. During a global pandemic, Yolanda found catharsis in working with her hands and being lucky enough to bring a bit of joy to people’s lives. The small business ups and downs that came in the years to follow built a bakery and community that Yolanda could be proud of. She continues to learn and grow in her craft, and loves to explore flavors, textures and techniques. Yolanda loves to bring influences from other cultures to her baked goods, inspired by both her travels and her own heritage. As she prepares to open her first commercial bakery, Yolanda, supported by her lovely husband and their two wonderful daughters, beams with excitement and anticipation. She cannot wait to see you all at the shop soon!
"I am excited about Yolanda Tran and her fantastic home-baked goods business. My husband and I have been lucky recipients of her creations - delicious, tasty and yummy! Her blueberry muffins are the best we have ever had and a big step up from the local coffee shop. We wish Yolanda and her “Brick House Yellow Door” business much success as they expand the business."
